The crew of Marie Page Cleaning Services is cleaning for a reason throughout Monroe County.

Owner Marie Page and manager Katherine Bullock-Oney wanted to give back to the community so they became maid service partners with Cleaning for a Reason, a nonprofit that provides cleaning services for women suffering from cancer.

"We've been involved since May," said Bullock-Oney. "We both know people who have died from cancer and this is our way of helping women in the area who are suffering from it."

Both Bullock-Oney and Page have a history of donating and volunteering. Bullock-Oney has participated in several Relays for Life, and Page volunteers at bingo functions in her church.

Using their business to help others seemed like a natural step for them.

"We want to help everyone," said Bullock-Oney. "It makes us feel good to help."

Bullock-Oney discovered the foundation online and was thrilled to join the organization after conducting some research. She applied to become a partner and was approved after a few days.

"Cleaning for a Reason wants to make sure the partners are legitimate cleaning companies," she said. "It only took a few days (to become a partner)."

Because it is so easy to join and because they believe in the cause so much, the crew of Marie Page Cleaning Services encourages other companies in the area to join the cause.

"We want to help everyone, but we know we can't," said Bullock-Oney. "If other companies join, so many more people can be helped."

Rebecca's Cleaning is also a local partner, and Clean Force One in Hazleton offers free carpet cleaning to all of the Marie Page clients. Any patients that would like to apply for the program can do so at www.cleaningforareason.org.

They will be asked to submit contact information, address and proof from a doctor that they are receiving treatment. The organization will then contact local partners and match them with the new patients.

Patients matched with Marie Page will receive a free cleaning once a month for four months.

Bullock-Oney encourages anyone interested in the service to sign up online or call 570-629-7811.

Marie Page was in the Northeast Pennsylvania Business Journal article on Woman in Business in their March 2007 Issue as one of the Top 25 Woman in business.

“Adapt business to clients” Needs”

Emma Marie Page is the CEO, president and owner of Marie Page Cleaning Services in Reeders, Monroe County; She started the business with just a few clients and two employees. Marie Page Cleaning now employs 19 workers, runs a fleet of vans, and has a web site www.mariepageservices.com to promote their services.

Page provides residential and commercial cleaning services, complete floor care, and light delivery and shipping services. She started the business back in 1989 after moving back to the Pocono region of Northeast Pennsylvania from working in restaurant management in Maryland. She was doing housekeeping as a way to supplement her family’s income. Then through word of mouth, marketing and hard work, she capitalized on what she saw as a great opportunity for a new business.” I came to realize there was a big need for this type of services in the Pocono’s,” she explains.
She also took the time to listen to her clients to determine their needs. Using what she learned from them she designed a program to fit most cleaning projects.

Her clients are the most important part of her business. She takes pride in assuring them that they will be well satisfied with her services. “We guarantee all our work” she says. Page tells her clients that if cleaning is not done correctly, they will return to the site and do it again at no cost.

Moving into the commercial market and learning all about the specs of cleaning, chemicals and machinery presented a big challenge as her company grew. Marie Page Cleaning is a member of the Better Business Bureau and the Local Chamber of Commerce. The help feed families, sponsor little league teams, and do volunteer work for the American Cancer Society to give back to the community. She refers to her employees as good hardworking people who care about what they do.

Finding a career requires a lot of time and patience, she says it helps to do something you enjoy and nothing replaces hard work. Business don’t become successes overnight, she notes she appreciates her husband Stephens support. He serves as the company’s repairman; she also has 2 sons Joseph and Edward and three grandchildren Joseph, Laura, and Jessica. “They are the best thing that ever happened to me”, she says.
